What Was Younger Me Thinking?

For most of my childhood I didn’t know what I wanted to be when I grew up… more accurately I couldn’t decide on just one thing.  I know I’m not the only one who experienced this growing up. We all had dreams of being random things as we grew up and only sometimes did we settle on one of those random things and that’s what we ended up doing.

For a while there I was fascinated with dinosaurs.  Yes dinosaurs! I was convinced I would one day be a paleontologist.  I don’t know how many times my mother found me in the gravel driveway or the yard with a small shovel and a few old paint brushes searching for fossils.  I’ll admit it I was that kid I was obsessed with Jurassic Park when it came out and I totally wanted to study dinosaurs.

And then there was the period in time when I was just sure I would end up as a marine biologist.  Oh and of course I would be focusing on working with dolphins while spending my weekends painting sea life.  Keep in mind while I had that particular dream I had never seen the ocean or a dolphin… accept on TV and in movies.

Those are just a couple things that made it onto my list.

Throughout all of that the only things that stayed consistent was my love of figuring out how to make things work into a space and my love of technology.

Growing up I was always drawing sketches of rooms in our house along with the furniture that went in the rooms.  I was constantly figuring out different space planning options long before I knew that was even a thing. Long before I knew what interior design was.

It wasn’t until late in high school that I learned that going to college to study design was even an option.  Thanks to a great teacher who showed me some options and organized the class trip to the college I was looking at, my future had a direction.

Thanks to my wonderful father I found my love for technology.  He was a computer whiz. We had computers all over our house long before we had them in our classrooms in school when I was little.  My first computer was custom built by my father.

So it should come as no surprise that I somehow figured out a way to work with both.  I love designing homes and interiors while building them in 3D with computer models.

This is probably my biggest passion in life these days.  I honestly don’t know where I would be without these things in my life.  I’m so excited to be able to share my passion with clients and other designers.  I can’t help but think about how proud and excited my father would be if he could see all of this with me these days.

So now I’m in the process of figuring out how to share my passion with other designers in a way that can help them.  That’s why I’m currently working on a series of online training courses specifically geared toward designers and design enthusiasts.  I want to take my love of technology and design and combine them in a way that helps you guys out there.

Anyone looking to get into this whole 3D modeling experience… I want to save you some time and some frustration and all that trial and error that I went through way back in the beginning when I first started doing this and put you on the right path to start working in these programs.

So if this sounds like something you’re interested in don’t forget to sign up for my mailing list.  And spread the word because I’m going to be sending out some new updates as things come along. Sharing little behind the scenes things as I pull my courses together and you don’t want to miss out on all the announcements leading up to the launch of these courses.

So sign up for the list.  Stay in-the-know. Stay up-to-date.

And don’t forget, if you have any struggles with these programs that you’d love to see a course on or maybe just a little quick tip or tutorial let me know in the comments.  Shoot me an email (victoria@calypsodesignstudio.com). Find me on Instagram.  Join my designers discussion group on Facebook.  Let me know what you’re looking for and how I can help you and maybe I can work it into a course.
